Who Are First responders?

If Ironman or Spiderman are your fictional superheroes, first responders are your real-life superheroes. First responders are people who are trained to respond to, deal with, and help with accidents and the world’s emergencies. Examples of first responders are Firefighters, Doctors, and Paramedics.

Overlooked and Underpaid

They are essential to our society, but unfortunately, multiple articles and reports shared that first responders like medical staff or EMTs are still underpaid. For example, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, EMTs make an average of 16,5 dollars an hour, about 40% less than the average wage of employed Americans. Despite their rough workplace, they are even said to be the worst paying medical jobs. Some people argue that their salaries are low because the certification is minimal. It takes roughly 150 hours of training to become an EMT (more hours may be needed for paramedics).

It’s important to appreciate and provide benefits to first responders and, of course, pay them for what they are worth. Without them, who will help save lives? Imagine if there were no doctors in the world; who would help people perform the most life saving surgeries? Or imagine if there are no firefighters during wildfires, who will help citizens and wildlife? They have risked their lives to save others, but they are still underpaid. To support them, the least businesses can do is show appreciation by saying thanks and providing them with benefits.
