The news comes from Chizai-Watch (via Siliconera). Chizai-Watch is a Japanese website that keeps tabs on new patents published by the JPO through a weekly bulletin.
The nine other games on the list of filed trademarks include Bionic Commando, Breath of Fire, Darkstalkers 3, Ghosts ’n Goblins, Mega Man, Mega Man Legends, Power Stone, Project Justice, Rival Schools, and Strider.
Of course, trademark filings do not portend either impending game announcements or releases. There is currently no word on if Capcom is actively developing titles for any of these IPs, including Dino Crisis and Power Stone. Companies often file trademarks to retain rights to properties for future use, even if that use is years away.
Of all of the titles listed, however, Dino Crisis seems to be the most likely to receive a new entry in the “near” future, due in part to the recent success of the Resident Evil 2 remake and the impending release of the Resident Evil 3 remake. Earlier this year, Capcom said that certain IPs could see new entries based on fan interest, which is what the company did with the long-awaited Onimusha remaster in January.
Seeing the steady stream of fan mods for the Resident Evil 2 remake, including a mod that reskins RE2’s base models with Dino Crisis skins, it’s safe to say that fans are interested in revisiting the dino-centric franchise.
Only time will tell if any of these games see new entries in the coming years. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more on Dino Crisis and other Capcom games as it breaks.
